The Summit Isn't Behind You.
A new book for those who've built something that mattered — and sense there is still more to climb.
The Higher Mountain
Christ's Call for the Last Great Season of Life
"You've climbed one mountain already. Career. Family. Accomplishment. You built something that mattered. But somewhere along the way, a question started surfacing: Is this all there is?"
In The Higher Mountain, John McCracken draws on decades of pastoral ministry, financial counsel, and work alongside men and women navigating life's later chapters to chart a different path forward. Beginning with the first mountain you've already climbed — career, family, accomplishment — he walks through the valley of disorientation that follows, and then issues Christ's call to a higher and greater ascent.
A theology of what these years are for.
Five Chapters
The Higher Mountain moves through five chapters — from the mountain you've already climbed to the one Christ is calling you toward.
The First Mountain
Naming what you built — career, family, accomplishment — and why the summit of that mountain is not the end of the story.
The Valley
Confronting the disorientation that follows the first mountain — the loss of identity, purpose, and forward motion.
The Higher Mountain
Hearing Christ's call to a new and greater ascent — the pathway up the Higher Mountain is that of self-giving love.
The Climbing Gear
The spiritual disciplines, relationships, and practices that equip the soul for the upper mountain.
The Summit
Communion with God, grounded in union with Christ — the destination these years have always been pointing toward. Not an ending, but an arrival.
